For the first time in 16 months, on Tuesday 27th July, members of the Rotary Club of Sutton Coldfield Vesey had their first face to face meeting at the clubs new venue, Sutton Coldfield Golf Club. Fourteen club members chatted away with so much to catch up on until they were eventually called to order by the clubs President, Mike Harrison. Mike gave a heartfelt welcome and continued to outline the way ahead for the clubs involvement within the local community. The main club drivers will be to assist two locally based charities both financially and by hands on:-
1.Square Peg Activities Ltd. https://www.squarepegactivities.org/ Inspired by the challenges faced by of one of the trustee’s two disabled children, Square Peg Activities was established in 2017 to support children and adults with additional needs as well as their siblings, parents and carers. The charity now runs free for all Stay & Play sessions, offer free tickets for day trips, run LEGO based therapy, do Autism Awareness talks in schools, youth settings as well as in corporate venues and host monthly breakfast meet-ups for parents/carers. We also understand both Wylde Green and Erdington Rotary Clubs are considering assisting us with this charity.
2.Hope Food. http://www.neighbourly.comthis is a new group now based in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield being established in May 2021. The group seeks to help individuals and families within North Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield areas who are experiencing financial hardship and as a consequence are suffering from food poverty. The group will actively work collaboratively with others to use and then redistribute food aiming to ensure that no food goes to waste. The group has very recently celebrated its official launch along with Royal Sutton Coldfield Mayor Terry Wood and other invited guests.
Should anyone out there wish to join our Rotary Club to assist us with these two charities and other local, national and international projects we can be contacted as follows office@rotaryvesey.org.uk we would love to hear from you.
